Yin Yoga Series 1: Rest and Reset (9 classes)

  • Closed

Restore your energy, improve your digestion, boost your immune system and reduce "inflammaging". These are just some of the class topics in this deeply rejuvenating Yin yoga series with Melanie Richards. Each 60-minute class includes a short introduction to the class theme, a centering with warm ups, mindfulness and Pranayama (breath work) and a carefully curated Yin Yoga sequence of postures.

Keep calm and stay energized for winter.

Imagine the perfect fall day: warm enough to feel the sun on your face and cool enough to wear your favourite cozy sweater. You’re strolling down a path lined with shimmering golden trees, sipping pumpkin spice, and looking up in awe at a cloudless bright blue sky. Crisp autumn air fills your lungs. 🍂☀️

Your mind is quiet, your body relaxed, and your spirit soaring like the birds heading south for winter. You feel invigorated, alive, and at one with yourself and the world.

Now, imagine you could bottle that feeling and tap into it all winter! ❄️

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, your kidneys are that bottle. They’re little bean-shaped reservoirs of Chi - your vital life force energy.

When you leave behind summer and early autumn’s warm, bright “Yang” energy and transition to November's dark, damp “Yin” energy, the natural sources of Chi available in our environment (think long days and the heat from the sun) diminish, and your precious Kidney Chi stores can quickly deplete.

To keep your vitality through the colder months, it’s essential to slow down and rest deeply. But ironically, we’re expected to be more productive than ever. The discord between our natural rhythms and societal pressures in the northern hemisphere can lead to a weakened immune system, low moods and feeling scattered and drained.

This profoundly restful series will preserve and restore your energy and balance your nervous and hormonal systems so you can feel your best as you transition to a new season!

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin yoga honours our profound need for stillness with its long-held, passive stretches that target the connective tissue of the hips, legs and back.

Each class is an opportunity to open your body and release deep physical tension. When coupled with mindfulness, this quietly powerful practice will also support you in letting go of excess stress, stuck emotions and outdated, limiting thought patterns.

This series is for you if you want to:

  • gracefully transition from fall to winter

  • have more energy

  • avoid seasonal affective disorder (SAD)

  • relax deeply

  • sleep better

  • release physical, mental and emotional tension

  • improve your flexibility and mobility

  • cultivate mindfulness

  • stabilize your mood

  • Feel mentally clear and focussed

How the series' structure will support your practice:

Live Zoom classes facilitate commitment and community.

Our Wednesday live Zoom classes offer a welcome mid-week break. Join them to connect with a supportive, like-hearted community! Log in early for an informal check-in and chat, and stay an extra few minutes after class to ask questions and express individual needs.

On-demand replays make it easy to find the practices you love and do them on your own time, again and again.

Within twenty-four hours of the live class, a succinctly edited version of the recording will be uploaded to HappyTree’s platform. In the description below the class recording, you will find the theme of the class and a time stamp for each section of the practice for easy, quick referencing.

The class recordings will be available to you on demand for two months after the series ends! Do the classes whenever you like, as many times as you like, well into the new year.

Suggested props

Here are some props you will find helpful for your practice:
  • Yoga mat
  • 2 yoga blocks
  • 2-3 folded blankets
  • A strap or scarf
  • A bolster or stack of folded blankets
  • A chair
  • A small amount of wall space

Tips for practicing yoga at home

This series is an opportunity to create a sacred space in your home. It doesn't have to be big - it could be the corner of a room (I even have a friend who meditates in his closet! 😉).

The energy of peace and calm builds over time when we return to the same place to practice. I recommend having a few meaningful objects in your space, be it plants, candles, crystals or photographs. You might even find your pets want to join you! 😸
